The complete Transformational Hypnotherapy Certification Course consists of three hundred hours of intensive training developed and certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) and Eastburn Institute of Hypnosis. To best accommodate students, the classes have been developed in two formats: a weekend format, with classes occurring two weekends/month for four months, and an accelerated 9-day intensive format (230 hours).

At Eastburn Institute of Hypnosis we are dedicated to providing top quality education. Building rapport, interviewing techniqes, pain management, hypno-anesthesia, deepening techniques, and many other topics are covered in depth, as well as related aspects of hypnotherapy practice, such as jurisprudence and marketing. You Will Learn:

What is Hypnosis?/Introduction to Hypnosis: A complete technical and simple explanation of hypnosis is explored. Concepts of primary and secondary suggestibility are introduced.

History of Hypnosis: Background information on the history of hypnosis, including the discoveries/influences of James Braid, the Marquis du Pursuyger, Mesmer, etc.

Preliminary Suggestibility Tests: The purpose and types (authoritarian and permissive) are discussed and demonstrated. You’ll practice conducting each test as well as learn how to achieve "rapport" with a client.

Recognition and Classification of Subjects: An in-depth discussion of the qualification of subjects, including common fallacies we encounter, age and occupational suggestibility, and susceptibility of highly impressionable and emotional people.

How to Hypnotize: Several classical hypnotic induction procedures are introduced. You’ll practice and be critiqued. The basic elements necessary to ensure successful inductions every time. Learn how to hypnotize with the touch of a finger.

Methods of Awakening: Ordinary and gradual awakening/emergence methods are shown and practiced.

Depth Stages of Hypnosis: You will be introduced to the two general divisions (mnesic and amnesic) and the six depth stages of hypnosis. The criteria for judging hypnotic depth and suggested sequence of tests to judge depth are discussed and illustrated as well as how to deepen the hypnotic state.

Suggestion Management: You will learn the rationale for using self-hypnosis and how it can positively and powerfully influence all phases of you life. In addition, you’ll be introduced to the world of "suggestion" and learn six important criteria for formulating action suggestions.

Hypnotic Miscellany: Mechanical and electronic instrument aids, posthypnotic suggestion, hypermnesia phenomena, sensory hyperaesthesia. Topics such as negative word traps and unethical posthypnotic suggestions are discussed. An introduction to anesthesia management takes place in this lesson.

Advanced Induction Techniques: Complete training in several rapid inductions that you’ll use regularly with confidence and expertise. The mystery of success in rapid inductions is completely mastered through demonstrations, experimentation, and practice. You’ll be equipped with sufficient methods and techniques to rapidly induce trance in even the most difficult subject. You’ll learn to utilize Double Binds—giving your subject the choice of two or more instructions to follow with either choice producing the same result—an ingenious method to obtain the results you desire, and the effective use of kinesthetic disorientation inductions.

Assessment, Goal Setting, and Reinforcement: This lesson introduces through interactive discussions and application exercises, the methodology to develop a treatment plan for most presenting problems. Participants will learn the BASIC assessment model and a format for developing goal setting skills and reinforcement scripts.

Counseling Skills: How to do a pre-induction interview, setting realistic goals, the Hypnotherapeutic role, clients you can and cannot work with, etc.

The First Session with a Client: The timing and structure of the first hypnosis session with a client is outlined and practiced—how to explain hypnosis to a client, which induction method to use, and how to incorporate suggestibility testing and depth testing when appropriate.

Sessions Two, Three and Four with a Client: Participants are taught to structure all additional sessions with clients, including the development of actual treatment plans.

Imagery and Hypnosis: Through case studies, role-play activities, and illustrations, the practical applications of using imagery in conjunction with proven ego-strengthening techniques are explored and practiced.

Use of Tasking: How to use tasking as a method of reinforcement of suggestions and as a powerful tool for difficult subjects. The well-trained hypnotherapist never fails. You’ll learn the methods of tasking to produce successful results with every client session.

Creating Triggers and Anchors: The importance and use of triggers and anchors with clients. You’ll learn how positive and negative triggers can be utilized for benefit or neutralized to resolve problems, and how triggers can be incorporated and intensified with the senses.

Uncovering Techniques (Regression): The rationale for using regression techniques including the affect-bridge technique, automatic writing, ideomotor response and other methods are discussed. You’ll become a master of the most successful techniques used to uncover repressed and suppressed material. Through demonstration and practice you’ll learn the process in detail. Your thorough comfort with both pseudo and true regressions will give you the knowledge and confidence to use this powerful tool regularly. Transformational techniques including Gestalt, Verbalizing, and Reframing complete this phase of training.

Inner Parenting: Inner child journey, inner child rescue. Building inner resources—the inner mother, father, lover, etc.

Past Life Regression: Whether one chooses to facilitate past life regressions or not, they may spontaneously occur, and therefore, cannot be ignored. It is necessary to learn to handle them professionally. Possible explanations for past life regression include: fantasy or metaphor, genetic memory, collective unconscious, reincarnation, etc.

Your Hypnosis Practice—The Potential it Offers You: The varied possibilities and options open to create your profitable hypnosis practice are explored. This includes how to start, expand, and market your private practice. The methodology and structure of developing a practice and marketing your hypnosis programs to the corporate world. Martie O'Brien is certified through the National Guild of Hypnotists and is a graduate of the Eastburn Institute of Hypnosis. Jay Hemmingsen is the Associate Director of the HypnoFertility Foundation. He works closely with Lynsi Eastburn in the program development area as well as in assisting with meeting the needs of Foundation clients and students. In addition to being an Assistant Instructor at the Eastburn Institute, Jay also sees clients on a full-time basis at the Eastburn Hypnotherapy Center (Arvada, Tamarac and Wash Park offices). About the Instructor: Roy Hunter is a Hypnotherapist certified by several hypnotherapy associations, and a presenter who has taught professionals on both coasts as well as abroad. Roy started a full-time hypnotherapy practice in 1983, and has been teaching professional hypnotherapy at Tacoma Community College since 1987. In 1998, he became an adjunct faculty member at Bastyr University, teaching a graduate level class on hypnosis. His current experience includes working with terminal cancer patients for the Franciscan Hospice in Tacoma, Washington. Roy was personally trained by the legendary late Charles Tebbetts and has written several books on the subject, including The Art of Hypnosis , and The Art of Hypnotherapy . His first book was HypnoCise (now out of print) written in 1985, and published in 1987 by Westwood Publishing under a different title. His latest book, Master the Power of Self-Hypnosis (Sterling Publishing, 1998) is available in bookstores and online. He is currently writing a book on Parts Therapy for Crown House. Roy was inducted into the International Hypnosis Hall of Fame in April of 2000 for his written contributions to the hypnotherapy profession.

Forensic Hypnosis is defined by Whitney Hibbard and Raymond Worring in their most excellent book, Forensic Hypnosis: The Practical Application of Hypnosis in Criminal Investigations: Thomas Publishing, as the “Application and management of the science of hypnosis in criminal and civil investigations.” The primary objective of forensic hypnosis is to enhance the recall of volunteer victims and witnesses to crimes and civil actions.
